Private Security Patrol in Monterey Heights?

You have asked about the feasibility of such a program and we invite you to learn more at our Annual Meeting and Potluck Supper on Wednesday October 25th at 6PM when Steve Rank of Rank Investigation and Protection will address this subject. Additional topics of the evening include crime prevention and safety through the eyes of Captain Flaherty of the Taraval Police Station and West Portal Library-sponsored enrichment programs. Please see the enclosed invitation for more information. Don’t forget to bring a savory dish to share!

Written Questions to be Submitted to Captain Flaherty of Taraval Police Department

We know that a lot of you have been concerned about crime and safety in the neighborhood. To that end, we have invited Captain Flaherty of the Taraval Police Department to join us at our Annual Meeting on October 25th. So that Captain Flaherty might more fully address these and other topics of concern to Homeowners, we ask that you provide us with questions which we will submit to her prior to the Annual Meeting. For example, a question such as: “What is the Taraval Police Department doing in response to the rash of auto break-ins that have been occurring in our neighborhood between 1 and 4 in the morning?” is a great question. Please e-mail questions to info@montereyheights.org or fill out the attached survey.

Holiday Caroling in Monterey Heights

This December, the Monterey Heights Homes Association will be partnering with the all-woman a cappella chorus San Francisco Sound Wave to bring holiday caroling to the neighborhood! On Sunday, December 17th, beginning at 5:00PM, a group of approximately 30 carolers from SF Sound Wave will sing at 4 or 5 different locations in the neighborhood. If you would like to host one of these 20 minute long caroling sessions at your house (for example, on your front porch, on your front lawn or in your driveway), please contact us by e-mailing to info@montereyheights.org or completing the attached survey! We are looking for outdoor locations that are easily accessible and that have a plan in case of rain! We only ask that host homes try to get the word out to their neighbors about the carolers so that many can join in listening and perhaps even singing along!

Help Us Bring a “Little Free Library” to Monterey Heights

You may already be familiar with “take-a-book-leave-a-book” libraries in nearby neighborhoods. They are generally found in people’s front yards close to the sidewalk and offer an opportunity to donate a book you’ve read for one you haven’t and the possibility of conversation with another library customer. We would like to bring our own Little Free Library to Monterey Heights and have done a bit of research by talking to nearby neighbors about their experiences as Little Free Library hosts. To that end, we are looking to staff a new committee – the Little Free Library Committee – tasked with the job of finding an optimal location (along with a willing host homeowner) and designing, materials sourcing, building and installing our new Little Free Library. While it is possible to buy a library “kit” on-line at www.littlefreelibrary.org, the hosts we spoke with in other neighborhoods were able to build their libraries from scrap in their own garages (old cabinetry, extra shingles, discarded acrylic, etc.). In fact, one host clued us in on a great recycling center frequented by artists and teachers called SCRAP from which we might be able to source many building materials. If you are interested in joining our committee, please e-mail us at info@montereyheights.org or fill out the attached survey.

Please Consider Running for the Board!

Serving on the Board of Directors is a great way to meet other Homeowners and to have a real influence in shaping the future of Monterey Heights.  We are currently seeking Homeowners (who are up to date on their dues) to run for the Board of Directors.  For the 2018 – 2020 term, we have 4 spots to fill by popular election.  Please consider nominating yourself or your neighbor!  Nominations will be taken from the floor of the Annual Meeting, during the business portion of the meeting.  If you are unable to attend, but still wish to run, please let us know.  We meet the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:15 PM in the Community Room of the Taraval Police Station.  If you feel you cannot make a three-year commitment, we may have one or more one-year spots that will be filled by appointment in 2018.  If you have any questions, please contact us at info@montereyheights.org.

Please Consider Volunteering for a Committee

One great way to get involved with the Monterey Heights Homes Association is to volunteer on a committee.  The Welcoming Committee welcomes new Homeowners to the neighborhood by personally greeting new Homeowners and delivering to them welcoming packets and small plants.  The Website Committee creates and maintains website content.  The Newsletter Committee writes and publishes a newsletter twice a year.  The Little Free Library Committee is tasked with establishing a new branch in Monterey Heights. Please let us know if you would like to join one of these committees by signing up at the Annual Meeting, e-mailing us at info@montereyheights.org, or indicating so on the attached survey.
